The role
We are looking for a Technical Tester to join our long-term partnership with ICA, one of Scandinavia's largest companies.
This is a full-time, on-site position in Sarajevo, with a start date as soon as possible.
The initial engagement is planned for a minimum of 17 months, until 28 February 2028, with the possibility of extension.
You will join Team Core Activebank within ICA Banken, working primarily with backend, API, integration, and database testing of business-critical banking systems.
This role requires strong hands-on test automation and backend testing experience, with the ability to contribute to automation from the start.
Project
You will be part of Core Activebank, a team responsible for backend systems supporting ICA Banken and ICA Gruppen.
The team works with two key systems:
- Activebank – ICA Banken's core banking system
- IHB – an ICA Gruppen backend system maintained by the Core Activebank team
ICA's web and mobile applications are being modernized, introducing changes and new requirements across these backend systems. As part of the team, you will help ensure that these changes are thoroughly tested across APIs, backend services, databases, and integrations.
While testing activities cover multiple layers, the primary focus of this role is backend testing.
The work includes:
- Developing, maintaining, and executing automated tests
- Testing backend systems and APIs
- Testing integration layers, including contracts, data mappings, and error handling
- Performing database validation and troubleshooting using SQL
- Understanding system architecture and following data and requests across different system components
- Building and maintaining automated regression test coverage
- Investigating defects across APIs, backend services, databases, integrations, and data flows
- Integrating and running automated tests as part of CI/CD processes
- Combining automated and manual testing where appropriate
- Supporting testing throughout development, release, and production cycles
- Collaborating closely with developers, testers, and other team members in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sweden
- Continuously improving test coverage, automation, and overall software quality
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of professional software testing experience
- Strong hands-on backend testing experience
- Strong hands-on test automation experience, with the ability to independently contribute to automated testing from the start
- Hands-on experience with Playwright or a comparable modern test automation framework
- Experience using a programming language for test automation, preferably TypeScript or C#
- Strong hands-on experience with API testing
- Strong SQL knowledge and practical experience validating and investigating data using SQL queries
- Experience testing integration layers, including contracts, data mapping, and error handling
- Good understanding of system architecture and how APIs, backend services, databases, and integrations interact
- Experience with CI/CD environments and automated test execution
- Good understanding of test automation frameworks and the principles behind them
- Experience investigating and troubleshooting issues across different system layers
- Solid understanding of software testing principles and test case design
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability and willingness to learn, investigate, and ask questions
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
- Good English communication skills
Nice to have:
- Experience with C# for backend/API test automation
- Experience with RestSharp or similar API testing libraries
- Experience with performance testing, particularly LoadRunner or similar tools
- Experience with Azure DevOps
- Experience testing mobile applications
- Experience with BrowserStack or similar platforms
- Experience using AI tools in software testing
- Previous experience in banking, financial services, or insurance
- ISTQB Foundation or another relevant testing certification
